Radio Leighton's Stewart Green Is Nominated for Volunteer of the Year
Hospital Radio Leighton is very proud that one of it's members Stewart Green was a finalist at the celebrations of Achievement Awards Ceremony arranged by the Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Stewart was nominated by Rosemary Shaw who works in the Estates Department at Leighton Hospital. She is pictured with Stewart at the Awards Event which was held at Nantwich Civic Hall on October 9th 2014.
In her nomination in the category of Volunteer of the Year Rosemary said:
"Stewart has just completed 30 years' service as hospital radio broadcaster. I know he spends a considerable amount of time attending various events, particularly at weekends taking along his equipment to record interviews which he then broadcasts on hospital radio. He is clearly very passionate with this role and immensely knowledgeable on a vast range of subjects which he talks about over air. His weekly "Whats On?" update makes it interesting especially to those patients going home and who might be looking for a day out. He also recalls "On this day in history" and has a wonderful sense of humour. Congratulations Stewart!!
Stewart was one of 4 finalists. The award was won by Jenny Wright of the Royal Voluntary Service Outpatients Cafe, congratulations to her. Although Stewart did not win, it is an honour to be selected as a finalist. Hospital Leighton would like to thank Rosemary for nominating Stewart; it was good recognition of Stewart's service and shines a spotlight on the organisation.

Chairman David Owen, Mayor Cllr George Walton, Barbara Wilson and Peter Garner
PRESENTERS HONOURED AT LEAVING EVENT (September 2012)
Presenters Barbara Wilson and Peter Garner have been given the honour of Life Vice Presidents of Hospital Radio Leighton at a special meeting at which the Mayor Cllr George Walton made the award for their achievements with the society.
Barbara Wilson has been with the society since September 1979 and has played an important part in the history of the society attending numerous events as well as presenting a Wednesday Evening request programme and a regular Quiz on the station. Barbara has also been on the committee of Hospital Radio in 1986 as treasurer and secretary of the society and has helped organise events for the society from Coffee Mornings to the Mayor’s annual visit to the studio as well as helping out at various events including Hospital Open days, Wistaston Duck Race, Coffee Mornings and the annual Carol Service where Barbara has also been a regular reader at the various churches around the area. Her devotion to the society over the years has been recognised by inclusion on the Honours Board in the Studio and by the Hospital who awarded her a long service award back in 2006 for over 25 years as a volunteer. A spokesman for the society, Stewart Green who has worked with Barbara for over 29 years said that she will be missed by the society for her dedication and friendship within the Hospital.
Barbara’s last request programme for the society was on the 6 June 2012 with her final recording being of her favourite violin player Gil Shaham.
At the meeting Bob Squirrell gave a personal recommendation for the award recalling many happy memories of his time working with Barbara on her Wednesday programme.
Peter Garner who also leaves the society this month started as a request show presenter at the old Isolation Hospital in Crewe and then moved onto being a quiz presenter in June 1988. In 1997 when the quiz folded Peter left the society eventually returning to the organisation in 2009 this time as a Monday night presenter with a programme devoted to the Musicals. Peter has also acted as auditor for the society.
Peter was proposed for the award by Chairman David Owen and Tuesday night presenter Terry Baker who had worked on the same night as Peter when he did the quiz shows and a programme with Irene Everall.
Linda Edwards the Voluntary Co-ordinator at Leighton Hospital added her thanks to both of the volunteers especially Barbara Wilson who she had worked with in Barbara’s role as secretary of the Society for many years.
A number of ex members turned up at the event to pay tribute to those leaving.
